Recovery Progress

Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep have been listed as an endangered species by the state of California and the federal government for more than a decade. This milestone invites us to review and reflect upon what has been accomplished since this listing and what future actions must be undertaken. Here we trace the dynamics of Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep herds over the past decade, review key accomplishments of the Recovery Program, and outline future management actions needed to reach recovery goals.

For more information about the last decade of recovery efforts, read the Recovery Program’s Ten Year Monitoring Report.
